The Privilege License Tax has been repealed in North Carolina, effective July 1, 2015. As a result, no privilege license renewal applications will be mailed. Please do not remit payment for these taxes without a renewal notification.
Prior Year taxes were not repealed and remain payable. Contact the Tax Collector below to pay your privilege license tax, only if it is delinquent. Please contact the Tax Collector's office at (704) 951-3010 if you have any questions about this important tax change.
The City does require new businesses to be registered with the City before they may operate. The one-time application for all business operations housed in a building or operated at a facility are required to be approved by the Planning & Development Department, the Fire Inspector, the FOG Program Coordinator, and the Cross Connection Inspector. They City would issue a Zoning Permit for the business at a specific location instead of a Business License. Businesses that existed prior to the new Tax Law do not have to register with the City. However, if you relocate the business within the city limits you will need to follow the business registration process.
Submit application after completed in person to 400 E. Central Avenue or by mail to PO Box 406, Mount Holly NC 28120. Attn: Business Application. Payments will be due at the time Zoning Permit is issued and ready to be picked up.
