Manufacturing Company in Mount Holly Announced Plans for Significant Expansion

Manufacturing Company in Mount Holly Announced Plans for Significant Expansion

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mount Holly, NC: In conjunction with The Gaston County Economic Development Commission, the City of Mount Holly is pleased to announce that Gold Bond Building Products, LLC, an affiliate of National Gypsum Company, will begin a significant expansion of its Mount Holly facility. The company will undergo construction on its existing facility and enhancements to upgrade its transportation infrastructure and other improvements through 2024.

Gold Bond Building Products is the leading U.S.-based manufacturer of gypsum wallboard. The company produces a full line of products including ceiling board, sheathing, shaftliner, tile backer, pre-finished board and plaster products.

Gold Bond Building Products will invest a total of $90 million in an expansion of its Mount Holly facility. This expansion is expected to create around 11 new jobs and retain 100 existing jobs. Gold Bond opened its Mount Holly manufacturing facility in 2007. More than half of its associates live in Mount Holly or surrounding areas in Gaston County.

"On behalf of the Mount Holly City Council, we are so excited that National Gypsum's affiliate, Gold Bond Building Products, LLC, has chosen to enhance their existing Mount Holly plant,” said Mayor Bryan Hough. “This expansion is the largest investment that Gaston County has ever experienced, allowing growth to our local workforce and our economy. We look forward to this continued partnership with National Gypsum."

“The expansion to the Mount Holly facility is anticipated to begin in the coming months. The construction is expected to be completed in 2024, although that timeline depends on the availability of materials,” said Donny Hicks, the executive director of the Gaston County Economic Development Commission. As part of the expansion, Gold Bond will be installing a rail spur and related infrastructure to transport some of their product. Hicks stated "There will be more in-bound shipments by rail that are currently being done by truck, so that's good for everybody.”

“Gold Bond has been a great corporate citizen for Mount Holly and Gaston County. We are all thrilled that they have chosen to reinvest in this plant, and stay in Mount Holly,” said Julie Roper, Gaston County Economic Development Board Chair. The Mount Holly Gold Bond team supports its local economy and community alike. It assists local veterans through the Heroes MAKE America program, which introduces veterans to manufacturing careers. The Gold Bond team also supports local non-profits through its NGC Giving Program.

“Thanks to support from the City of Mount Holly, Gaston County, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation, we are able to expand a world-class facility in North Carolina,” said Todd Broud, Vice President of Operations, Manufacturing and Engineering. “Mount Holly and Gaston County are home to us. We’re thrilled to continue conducting business here.”
