Mountain Island Park Bike Trails
MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS AT MOUNTAIN ISLAND PARK
The City entered into an agreement with the Tarheel Trailblazers in order for them to build mountain bike trails adjacent to the Mountain Island Park Trail extension. These trails will be constructed on 13 acres of City conservation property.
The first phase of the mountain bike trails will consist of a total of two constructed miles. The first segment will be beginner skill level (1/2 mile) and the remaining 1.5-mile segment will be designed for intermediate to advanced riders. A larger network of mountain bike trails along the City's property are planned in the future.
It is important to clarify that these bridges are built for mountain bikers which does not require the same width as our greenway bridges.
In January 2019, the Tarheel Trailblazers (along with 18 volunteers) worked on two bicycle bridges. These bridges were completed by the end of the day. Other work days are being scheduled until the work is completed.
