Preserving Heritage, Embracing Innovation: Mount Holly's Inaugural Legislative Day is a Success
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 28, 2024

Mount Holly, NC - The City of Mount Holly proudly hosted its first-ever Legislative Day on Thursday, March 21, welcoming esteemed members of the local delegation from Raleigh. State Senator Ted Alexander, State Senator Brad Overcash, and State Representative John Torbett joined forces with Mount Holly's local elected officials for an insightful tour highlighting the city's commitment to preserving its small-town charm through the renovation of historic buildings.

The day's itinerary showcased two prime examples of Mount Holly's dedication to honoring its rich heritage while embracing new opportunities for growth and development. The delegation had the pleasure of visiting Muddy River Distillery, set to open its doors in early summer. Housed within the historic walls of the oldest remaining cotton mill in Gaston County, Muddy River Distillery will not only serve as a distillery but also as a restaurant and premier event space. This ambitious project, with its roots deeply intertwined with the Mount Holly Cotton Mill's 1875 legacy, symbolizes the city's profound connection to its textile heritage.

Adjacent to the distillery, the delegation explored Firehawk Brewpub, a charming eatery nestled within the former Mount Holly Fire Department fire station dating back to the early 1960s. This establishment exemplifies Mount Holly's commitment to repurposing historic landmarks while enriching the community.

"We were thrilled to spend the afternoon with our local officials and esteemed delegation from Raleigh, showcasing how Mount Holly is preserving and enhancing our small-town character,” shared Mayor David Moore. “I grew up across the street from the Mount Holly Cotton Mill and spent much of my youth exploring, playing, and fishing there. It’s a joy to see what will be the next chapter in the story of this mill. These exciting ventures at Muddy River Distillery and Firehawk Brewpub showcase our city's resilience and ability to thrive while staying true to our roots."
